Fr. Robert F. Drinan

I've been waiting a week to see what the Conservo-Fascists would have to say about the passing of Father Drinan. It seems it's not a subject they have much to say about.

Father Drinan served 5 terms in the House of Representatives, with the blessing of Pope Paul II. Pope John Paul II forced him to choose between the preisthood and Congressional membership. This was at the time when Pope John Paul also dismantled the autonomy of the Jesuit Order, as part of his efforts to re-totalitarianize the Church. Father Drinan chose the priesthood.

Father Drinian was the antithesis of the religious leaders we see on the political scene today. He owned a single suit of clothes and lived in a room at Georgetown University. He did what was right. He said what was true.

Hear me Conservo-fascist scum! You can keep the likes of James Dobson, Pat Robertson and Paul Crouch. Men of God who steal from widows and orphans to amass huge personal fortunes. Men who dress in the finest clothes and personal accoutrements. Men who feel the need for professional bodyguards, when they travel in their bullet proof motorcades and private jets. Men who seek to gild their temples with offerings extorted from the poor and suffering. Men such as these are not worthy to shine the single pair of worn brogans owned by Father Drinan.

What is it with you? You have had the most hateful posts, especially against Christians, lately. Fr. Drinan was forced to choose, rightly so, because of something, in laymans's terms called "conflict of interest". And his stance on abortion was scandalous at best, and dangerously close to getting him excommunicated. But if you knew anything of the Catholic faith, you'd know that was the reason, at least one of them anyway, why JPII made him make a choice.

And don't don't lump Catholics in with the rest of the Protestant and their leaders - we don't take responsibility for them. In case you were wondering, those accoutraments the Pope wears are not his - they belong to the Church. Most priests, including the Pope do not have massive amounts of wealth. Look it up. Vows of chastity, poverty, obediance, and all that.

According to this article, he was a horrible priest, and I'm glad JPII reined him in.

Here is an excerpt from blogger Vivificat on Fr. Drinan.

"These were, in my opinion, Fr. Drinan's real lifetime achievements:
Fr. Drinan was a pro-abortion priest whose support of the abortion cause whitewashed the consciences of numerous fellow "progressive" Catholic and Christian members of Congress and beyond, at all levels of public life.

Fr. Drinan's purported moral authority and penchant for nuance and pseudo-theological subterfuge, gave an aura of respectability to the pro-abortion stance and plenty of cover to many Catholic politicians.

Furthermore, Fr. Drinan emboldened the wing of the Society of Jesus that equated the preaching of the Gospel with the pursuit of political activism and of social justice so-called; these priests, in turn, openly challenged and ridiculed bishops and cardinals critical of the direction of the order and of Jesuit political activism that ended in their open insubordination to legitimate authority. A few of these priests continue to this day to dissent with the Church in matters of abortion, priestly celibacy, homosexuality, and liberation theology, thanks in part to the space Fr. Drinan opened up for them.

Fr. Drinan's fudging, intrigue, maneuvering, cajoling, and half-promises, undermined the authority of the Jesuit Father General and brought the religious order founded by St. Ignatius Loyola into a state of disrepute not seen since the — unwarranted — suppression of said order back in the 18th century. I think that Fr. Drinan's deeds were partly to blame for the unprecedented papal intervention into Jesuit elections right around the time Fr. Drinan left Congress by order of Pope John Paul II.
In conclusion: Fr. Drinan's achievements rest upon the bodies of millions of aborted babies sacrificed over the altar of his peculiar understanding of "social justice." His legacy consists of the thousands of politicians whose consciences he absolved through his words and example, and who continue to do the devil's work in our halls of government.

Fr. Robert Drinan, called to account before the Lord yesterday, at age 86.

With the way you've been ranting lately, I'm seriously afraid of being in the same room with you. Let me know before you come East, so I can hide, would you? And check yourself, please?

Christ observed that no man can serve two masters. JPII gave Fr. Drinan his choice of who it would be.

I've seen ordained ministers of other faiths who weren't confronted in that manner. Their effectiveness was diminished by the continued effort to serve God & Mammon. Diminished and noted by members of their community.
